DILI, 04 october 2023 (TATOLI) – The Timorese government, through the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), has said that it will pay compensation this year to the 37 families living in the area of the designated Ulmera Industrial Park zone to begin the construction of the park.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Filipus Nino Pereira, said that the MTI team would soon be negotiating with these families over the payment of compensation.
“We hope that the negotiations with these 37 families will go well, as a few families still disagree on the amount of compensation for each family,” Pereira told reporters at the MTI office, in Dili.
Carlos Ximenes, Director General of the MTI, previously said that the government would allocate money to compensate these families.
MTI has allocated more than US$200,000 to the feasibility study for the construction of the industrial park.
The feasibility study for the construction of the industrial park was undertaken by the Haberan Unipessoal Lda, and PT ITS Tekno Sains, according to Director Ximenes.
He said: “The result of the feasibility study showed Ulmera is the right place for the creation of the park.
The area designated for the industrial park covers two large zones (50 hectares), stretching from Ulmera to Watuvou, in the municipality of Liquica.
Construction of the multi-million-dollar project is due to start in 2025 and to be completed in 2027. This project is expected to cost more than US$25 million.
