DILI, 31 october 2023 (TATOLI) – Tomás Cabral, President of the Organizing Committee for the commemorations of the 48th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Timor-Leste’s Independence, said that the government will invite the leaders of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to attend the upcoming commemoration of the Proclamation of Independence Day, which will take place on 28 november.
“The event will be attended by several important guests from the CPLP and ASEAN,” said Tomás Cabral in a statement.
The Government of Timor-Leste has allocated US$350,000 for the celebration of the Proclamation of Independence Day.
The 48th anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence Day will be celebrated with the theme: “Celebrating our history – Building our future.” The theme was approved by the Council of Ministers.
The celebration of the 48th anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence will take place at the Palace of the President, in Dili on november 28.
Various activities will be organized as part of the event, including the Thanksgiving mass to be held at the Santo António Church in Motael and a local product fair.
Thus, on 28 november, the commemoration will begin at 8 a.m. with the national flag-raising ceremony, followed by a military parade, a moment of silence, and the decoration of combatants and veterans of the Liberation of the country and a tribute to teachers by the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta.
At 5 p.m. the National Flag Lowering Ceremony will close the commemorations.
The 47th anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence was celebrated in Manatuto municipality.
