DILI, 01 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Education has completed the first phase of the process of the verification of the data of contracted teachers who will benefit from a special entry scheme into the teaching career statute based on Decree-Law no. 31/2023, of 31 May, the first amendment to Decree-Law no. 23/2010, of 9 December, on the Career Statute for Kindergarten Teachers and Primary and Secondary School Teachers.
The statement was made by the Director of Human Resources, Anita Tavares de Jesus, in an interview with Tatoli in Vila Verde, Dili.
“Of the 5,009 contracted teachers, we have finalized the data verification of 4,019 teachers who we consider eligible for the special career scheme because they have met the requirements – at least a bachelor’s degree and a positive performance evaluation in the last two years, in 2021 and 2022, while for the rest we are still waiting for them [contracted teachers] to hand in their diplomas,” said Tavares.
When asked about the change in salary, she explained that there is a difference between teachers in the special entry program and the general scheme, pointing out that in categories D and E of the general regime, teachers receive a monthly pay of between US$204 and US$271, but for the special entry program, teachers who have met the requirements will be categorized in category C, with graduates receiving US$289 and bachelors US$278 per month.
The director also pointed out that in the future, when documents are checked, there will be teachers who don’t have an associate’s or a bachelor’s degree. For these, the Ministry of Education will provide indefinite contracts, waiting for them to complete their higher education, as some are still currently studying at their respective institutions.
