DILI, 01 november 2023 (TATOLi) – The Minister for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Ágio Pereira, will represent the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, at the 52nd Leaders’ Meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum, which will take place between 6 and 10 November 2023, in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, with the theme: “Our Voices, Our Choices, Our Pacific Way: Promote, Cooperate, Prosper.”
“The Pacific Islands Forum is a regional organization that brings together political leaders from various Pacific island nations and territories, with the aim of promoting cooperation and dialogue between Pacific countries and territories on issues of common interest, including political, economic, social and environmental issues,” said Minister Pereira in a statement.
The Forum was established in 1971 and is made up of 18 full member states, as well as several associate members and observers, which include countries and organizations wishing to collaborate and cooperate with the Pacific region.
The Forum also includes the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, which provides administrative and organizational support for the Forum’s activities.
Australia, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Cook Islands, Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, French Polynesia, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu are the 18 members of the Pacific Islands Forum. Timor-Leste, for its part, has observer status in the Pacific Islands Forum.
