DILI, 09 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Education will make available more than US$2 million to pay a monthly transportation allowance of US$25 to each of the 14,239 teachers.
The payment of the allowance has been scheduled for this month, in which all teachers will receive a retroactive allowance from june 2023, totaling US$150, according to the Director of Human Resources, Anita de Jesus.
“We have completed the verification of the list of teachers who are eligible to receive the subsidy. The payment should be made first for the months of june to november and then we will process the payment for december,” Anita told Tatoli at his office, in Vila Verde, Dili.
She said that both permanent and contract teachers are eligible to receive the allowance, stating that the allowance is part of the government’s policy to address the problems of teachers who have to travel long distances to teach and to support those who don’t have adequate travel conditions.
He explained that, according to the initial figures, a total of 14,865 teachers were on the Ministry of Education’s list, but that the number dropped to 14,239 after verification. Payment will be made first to these 14,239 teachers. Meanwhile, the remaining 626 teachers will be paid later.
Anita added that the payment of the allowance to teachers remains generic: “But the allowances for teachers with higher positions will be different.”
