DILI, 11 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry (MALFF) has sent three Timorese students to study agricultural sciences at the Indonesian Agricultural Engineering Polytechnic (PEPI) in Tangerang, Jakarta.
Aquelino Rodrigues will study Agricultural Mechanics, Filomeno Timo Gusmao da Costa will study Water Resource and Irrigation Management, and Francisco Soares Alino will study Post Harvest.
The three-year scholarships are offered by the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture.
The Minister of Agriculture, Marcos da Cruz, said that studying agricultural sciences is critical for the development of the agricultural sector as these students will contribute to increasing food production and ensuring food security.
Minister Cruz encouraged the three scholarship recipients to use their time wisely in order to cope with the new educational environment and complete their degrees in three years.
He thanked the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture for giving Timorese students the opportunity to study at PEPI.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Okto Dorinus Manik, said that PEPI is a good higher education institution, calling on the three students to study well so that they can apply their knowledge and experience in Timor-Leste in the future.
Aquelino Rodrigues, one of the scholarship recipients, said he was very happy to have been awarded the scholarship and pledged to study hard in order to finish his studies on time.
“We are grateful for this opportunity. We will do our best to complete our study and contribute to the country’s development, especially in the agricultural sector,” he concluded.
