DILI, 15 July 2026 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Hort, on Wednesday welcomed a delegation from the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) of Bali Province at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace to discuss strengthening people-to-people connections and bilateral cooperation.
The productive dialogue focused on concrete initiatives to support Timor-Leste’s post integration into ASEAN, highlighting shared interests in quality tourism, business development, and education. The Balinese delegation, which included representatives from the hospitality, property, agricultural, and academic sectors, praised the strong existing ties, noting that over 100,000 Timorese citizens visit Bali annually and more than 500 students are currently pursuing higher education in the province.
During the meeting, the delegation formally extended an invitation for the Head of State to visit Bali in the coming months to open a collaborative business and cultural event.
Highlighting President Ramos-Horta’s esteemed international reputation as a Nobel Peace Laureate, a unifying leader, and a respected spiritual figure, the delegation announced that approximately 500 Indonesian CEOs and entrepreneurs are eagerly preparing to welcome him.
This anticipated visit is expected to further cement the strong socio-economic and diplomatic bonds between Timor-Leste and Indonesia.
