MoPW calls for the elimination of bureaucracy to support public sector growth

DILI, 16 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Public Works (MoPWP), Samuel Marçal in a joint discussion assessed the importance of removing bureaucracy in Timor-Leste to support the development private sector.

“The private sector has always complained about the bureaucratic system in this country, especially with its long hierarchical structure,” said Minister Marçal.

He said that eliminating the current bureaucracy will make room for growth, and innovation and contribute to the country’s economic growth: “Bureaucracy is often an obstacle and impedes the progress of private companies”

“The private sector creates jobs for young people and contributes to economic growth,” he said.

The President of the CCI-TL, Jorge Manuel Serrano, thanked the MoPW for organizing the meeting, saying that the meeting allowed companies to present their views on the obstacles that they face in relation to bureaucracy.

More than 300 representatives from various national companies took part in the meeting.
