Minister Pereira encourages young entrepreneurs to produce more local food

DILI, 20 november 2023 (TATOLI) – Minister of Trade and Industry, Filipus Nino Pereira encourages Timorese entrepreneurs to produce more local food in order to compete in the International market.

Minister Pereira made the comments during a visit to a local company, S4M (Corner Store Network Timor-Leste), run by young Timorese who won the Youth Business Innovation Challenge Competition in 2021.

During the visit, Pereira appreciated the company’s creativity and hard work in producing various local foods.

Corner Store Network Timor-Leste is a program working to address issues of food security, malnutrition, and hunger in Timor-Leste.

“We encourage young Timorese entrepreneurs to keep up their good work,” Pereira said in Manleuana, Dili, on monday.

Local foods produced at S4M include chili powder, dried chilies, pickled cucumber, ginger powder, lemongrass powder, turmeric tea, lemongrass tea, ginger tea, peanut oil, coconut oil, etc.

He said that the MTI would make efforts to produce food and beverage certification to give local food production companies opportunities to export their products abroad.

The Director of S4M, Martinho Gorety, thanked Minister Pereira for his visit, pledging to produce more varied local food to compete with imported food.
