DILI, 20 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The SACOM TL company, accompanied by the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, on monday, launched a fiber optic project in Timor-Leste to provide fastest high-speed internet service to Timorese people.

The President of SACOM TL, Abílio Araújo, said that his company is working with PLN Icon Plus of Indonesia to support the implementation of the Indonesian fiber optic cable from Singapore in Timor-Leste.

“PLN Icon Plus has 275 kilometers of fiber optic cable throughout Indonesia, so SACOM TL is very happy to cooperate with the company. We use fiber optic cable from Indonesia. But in Timor-Leste everything [referring to the fiber optic cable and infrastructure already built] is ours.  So, we own it 100%,” said Araújo at the launching ceremony, at the Presidential Palace, in Dili.

In fact, SACOM TL has an infrastructure in Batugade, called SACOM TL Batugede International Gateway, which will receive the cyber cable connection from Indonesia.

“The fiber optic cable, which is based in Batugade, shares the internet network with all the operators in Timor-Leste, such as Timor Telecom, Telkomsel, Telemor, and others, and this is the first investment,” Araújo stressed.

According to SACOM TL, the fiber optic cable is connected to the PLN Icon Plus from Indonesia, which is connected via Singapore by sea.

According to Abílio Araújo, the Head of State said he was proud of this investment and considered it a good contribution by the private sector to the country’s development.
