DILI, 19 december 2023 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Forestry (MALFF) through its National Directorate of Agriculture and Horticulture has distributed 260 tons of corn and paddy seeds to farmers across the country.
The 260 seeds, made up of 140 tons of paddy seeds and 120 tons of corn seeds, cost around US$650,000.
MALFF’s National Director of Agriculture and Horticulture, Lúcio Ribeiro, said that the distribution of the seeds aims to help farmers increase food production, especially rice and corn during the rainy season.
“So far, we have distributed 260 tons of corn and rice seeds to farmers so that they can cultivate their land during this rainy season,” Ribeiro told TATOLI at his office, in Dili, on monday.
He said farmers would grow rice and corn twice in every rainy season: “The first cultivation would take place between october and march and the second cultivation would take place between april and june.”
“We hope that farmers can increase their food production and improve their family income,” Ribeiro added.
He recalled that last year MALFF distributed more than 300 tons of corn and rice seeds to the farmers.
