DILI, 19 december 2023 (TATOLI) – Savio Graceful Furniture Baucau was one of the three winners of the 2023 Carpentry Competition, organized by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI)) and National Centre for Employment and Vocational Training (CNEFP).
The runner-up, Hawliko Kaum Muka Bobonaro, received US$10,500 and the third-place winner, Pun-Put Ermera, received US$7,000.
In addition, the winners also received personal protective equipment (PPE) and carpentry equipment, such as sewing cutting table, grinders, micro grinding machines, and bench buffers.
Minister of Trade and Industry, Philip Nino Pereira said that the competition aims to motivate young professionals to invest in their businesses in order to contribute to the country’s economic growth.
“I would like to congratulate the winners of this competition. This competition is a golden opportunity to learn new business ideas to better develop your business in the future,” said the Minister.
Filipus urged young people to start up their own businesses, saying it would contribute to reducing unemployment, and combating poverty in the country.
CNEFP Chairman José Simão Tito Barreto thanked MTI for organizing the competition, stressing that it will encourage more young people to come up with innovative ideas to grow their businesses in the future.
Leonardo dos Santos, from Karpintaria Pun-Put Ermera, who started his carpentry business in 2015, thanked the government for supporting young people’s business activities.
“This competition gives us opportunities to work hard and fulfill our dream of growing and developing our own business,” she said.
More than 20 youth organizations took part in the competition and only three were selected as winners.
