DILI, 10 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta delivered his speech at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit on wednesday, inviting investment and presenting opportunities for partnerships with India and other nations.
Speaking before an audience that included Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ramos-Horta highlighted Timor-Leste’s business climate and said the nation is moving forward to become a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO). He saw prospects in tourism, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and technology.
President Horta extended a welcome to investments in hotel, resource, and hospital sectors to support Timor-Leste’s sun-sea-sand and position it as a regional tourism hub.
The Head of State also spoke of plans for mining, gas, and mineral projects, including a gas pipeline and petrochemical refinery.
On infrastructure, President Horta said there have been recent developments such as the Tibar Bay Port and plans to expand Dili Airport. He also expressed his interest in partnering with India and the UAE on renewable energy projects.
The President of Timor-Leste said he looks forward to opening embassies in Dili and New Delhi soon to strengthen ties and thanked India for providing training to diplomats in Timor-Leste and for steadfast support over the years.
