DILI, 12 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta is providing support through the Civil Society and Social Inclusion Affairs department to build a proper house for Rita do Carmo, a vulnerable widow living in Nunusua Sub-Village, Talimoro Village.
Rita has been struggling to care for her seven children after her husband passed away in 2002.
Marcelino Xavier, the new Chief of the Nunusua sub-village, thanked the president for his support, saying that Rita’s living conditions had been extremely poor since 2002.
He said that the widow has faced great challenges trying to provide for her large family alone.
The Chief of Talimoro Village and Rita both expect continued support from Presiden Horta, especially to ensure her children can access education opportunities.
The Civil Society department plans to begin the construction of Rita’s new house this month.
This support highlights President Horta’s commitment to uplifting vulnerable groups through social programs.
Rita’s plight underscores the importance of inclusion to improve lives across Timor-Leste, even in remote villages.
