DILI, 28 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The National Director of Health Services (DNSH) of the Ministry of Health (MISAU), Carlos de Carvalho Guterres, revealed that last year 178 Timorese suffering from various serious illnesses were referred for medical treatment abroad.
“These patients received medical treatment in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Sadly, six patients have died,” Carvalho told Tatoli.
He said most of the patients suffer from cancer and heart diseases and required serious treatment abroad.
Of the 178 patients, 125 received treatment in Indonesia, 38 in Singapore, and 15 in Malaysia.
Director Guterres informed that the government currently intends to equip the National Hospital Guido Valadares with modern and adequate equipment to reduce the number of patients seeking treatment abroad.
