DILI, 29 january 2024 (TATOLI) – Between january 23 and 29, 2024, Timor-Leste was hit by windstorms and landslides that displaced 701 people, according to data from the Civil Protection Authority (CPA).
APC’s Head of External Relations and Communication, Nelson Orleãs said that CPA has made efforts to provide emergency aid, including medicines and food to the victims.
“We have already distributed emergency aid to several families. So far, we have registered 701 displaced people and the number could be higher, as our team has not yet completed the data collection,” he said in Dili.
According to APC data, 160 houses were damaged, including three in Manufahi, four in Manatuto, six in Ainaro, nine in Covalima, nine in Lautém, 10 in Baucau, 11 in Viqueque, 12 in Bobonaro, 17 in Aileu, 17 in Ermera, 31 in Liquiçá and 44 in Oé-Cusse.
Between january and march last year, the Secretary of State for Civil Protection registered 443 families affected by natural disasters. Seven people died and two were severely injured.
