DILI, 29 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Defense in partnership with the Intergovernmental Organization of Conflict Affected Countries (g7+) will organize an international conference on “Security Sector Reform in Timor-Leste,
The statement was made by the Secretary General of the g7+, Hélder da Costa, on the sidelines of a meeting with the former Chief of Staff of the Portuguese Armed Forces, António da Silva Ribeiro.
António da Silva Ribeiro was invited by the Ministry of Defense to take part in the international conference.
Delegates from g7+ member countries are invited to share experiences at the conference on security sector reform.
Costa said that the date of the conference will be decided collectively by the g7+ and the Ministry of Defense in the near future.
“This issue is extremely important, as it will contribute to the stability of the g7+ member countries,” said António da Silva Ribeiro, at the Government Palace.
The Secretary General of the g7+, Hélder da Costa, said that the conference would be attended by observers from the United Nations and the Asian region, as well as by the defense ministers of Guinea-Bissau, the Central African Republic, Haiti, the Solomon Islands, Sierra Leone, and South Sudan.
“We invited these defense ministers because these nations are still facing challenges in implementing security reform. We hope that, with their participation in the conference, we can share experiences and look for solutions to settle conflicts,” he concluded.
