DILI, 19 february 2024 (TATOLI) – The Government of Japan, through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP), has made US$73,000 available to the Non-Governmental Organization HADER for the construction of a three-classroom building at Maubara Central Elementary School, in the municipality of Liquiçá.
The grant agreement was signed by the Japanese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Tetsuya Kimura, and the Executive Director of HADER, Manuel da Cruz, in the presence of the President of the Liquiçá Municipal Authority, Paulino Ribeiro.
Kimura Tetsuya said that as well as financing various large-scale infrastructures, the Japanese government also supports “small projects that directly benefit local communities.”
Kimura said that GGP mechanism has played a leading role in improving and expanding social services, through the construction of schools, health centers water supply systems, etc.
“We have already implemented forty educational infrastructure projects such as classrooms and teachers’ rooms, toilets, and dormitories for students in the country,” said Kimura at the Japanese Embassy, in Dili.
Kimura asked the community to take care of the new school building, as it will be built for them.
According to Manuel da Cruz, the new building is expected to be completed next year.
