DILI, 13 may 2024 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta met with the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Timor-Leste, Wan Hadfi Lutfan at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.

The talks focused on preparations for the upcoming visit by His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who will be the guest of honor for Timor-Leste on may 20th, 2024.

Brunei was one of the first nations to recognize Timor-Leste after its restoration of independence from Indonesia in 2002 through a long struggle.

The diplomatic relations between the two nations have remained close and going from strength to strength.

The Independence Day celebrations on may 20th will feature a parade, cultural performances, and other festivities around the flag-raising ceremony, including the bestowing of honors upon individuals who have contributed to the development of the nation.

The presence of such a respected leader is a testament to the strong relationship between Timor-Leste and Brunei. This will be a landmark visit to Timor-Leste as the Southeast Asian nation celebrates freedom and democracy for the past two years.
