DILI, 15 may 2024 (TATOLI) – The Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmão, and the Minister of Justice, Sérgio Hornai, called on the members of the Criminal Investigation Police (PCIC) to demonstrate professionalism in performing their duties.
Both leaders made the comments on the sidelines of the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the PCIC under the theme Gains and Challenges.
At the anniversary ceremony, which took place at the GMN’s hall in Dili, the Head of Government emphasized that the PCIC must continue to cooperate with the National Police and the National Intelligence Service to serve the people, despite being an autonomous institution.
He said that Timor-Leste will be joining the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in the next few years, adding therefore, PCIC must show its professionalism in order to be able to work with international investigation agencies to combat crimes in the country and around the world.
Minister Hornai pledged to develop the justice sector: “PCIC, the Anti-Corruption Commission, and the National Police need to articulate strategies to consolidate the state and combat crime in the country.”
The Director of the PCIC, Vicente Brito, said that the institution currently has eight laboratories, which is why it is necessary to invest in training so that its members can strengthen their capabilities in the field of criminal investigation.
“The PCIC has worked in partnership with the Portuguese Judicial Police to provide specialized training for its staff,” he recalled.
