DILI, 24 may 2024 (TATOLI) – Between january and april, the Ministry of Health sent 236 patients abroad for medical treatment, revealed Vidal de Jesus, the director of the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services, at the Guido Valadares National Hospital.

These patients suffer from various serious illnesses and need intensive treatment abroad.

He said that the ministry sends patients abroad every year, especially those suffering from oncological and cardiovascular diseases as the country does not have adequate means to treat them.

“Most of the patients are suffering from oncological and heart problems, others had to be transferred to undergo surgeries that can’t be done here in the country,” said Vidal, in Bidau, Dili.

Last year, the ministry sent more than 100 patients to hospitals in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
