Papal Visit: Vatican delegation meets President Horta

DILI, 02 may 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, received an audience with a 16-member Vatican delegation led by Mgr. George Jacob Koovakad to discuss preparations related to the visit of His Holiness, Pope Francis, to Timor-Leste this september.

According to the Vatican representative in Timor-Leste, Mgr. Marco Sprizzi, this delegation consists of Protocol, Media, and Security personnel, and “Starting tomorrow, they will hold meetings and inspect all the sites that Pope Francis will visit,” said Mgr. Marco in a statement.

He said everyone is very enthusiastic, especially Catholics, to seriously prepare the conditions for the Pope’s visit to his Catholic faithful in Timor-Leste.

Pope Francis’ visit to Timor-Leste, the most predominantly Catholic country in Asia, will take place between 9 and 11 september 2024.

In addition to Timor-Leste, Pope Francis will also visit three other Asian nations in september, including Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Singapore.

“Pope Francis is scheduled to depart Rome on september 2 and return on september 13. He travels first to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, where he will land on september 3 and remain until september 6. Pope Francis will then fly east to visit Port Moresby, the capital of Papual New Guinea, and Vanimo on september 6-9. His next stop will be in Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, on september 9-11. From there, the Pope will travel to Singapore for a 3-day visit on september 11-13,” reported Vatican News.
