DILI, 07 june 2024 (TATOLI) – The Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmão, condemned the confrontation between young Timorese in Portugal, which ended with one dead.

The Portuguese authorities have arrested several suspects, members of the ritual organization of 77 and martial organization of 22, who were involved in the confrontation.

Gusmão warned Timorese workers currently living and working abroad to avoid committing crimes and violations.

The Prime Minister said that the government, under his leadership, will decide to permanently close down the practice of martial arts groups and rituals in the country, to prevent the younger generation from getting involved in such unorganized organizations.

Gusmão said that the government had suspended the activities of martial arts and ritual groups in the country. However, as the number of conflicts between the groups is increasing, ‘including the confrontation in Fatima, we must take the decision to permanently close down the organizations in the future.’

The confrontation took place on sunday (02/06/2024) in Fátima, Portugal, and resulted in the death of a man from ritual arts group 77.
