DILI, 10 june 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta urged the new Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Malaysia, Lizualdo Gaspar, to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

“President Horta emphasized that the relationship with Malaysia is important. Since before independence and up to the restoration of independence, Malaysia has always supported Timor-Leste, and during the official visit in 2003, Mahathir bin Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, was the first Head of Government to make an official visit to Timor-Leste and provided support, especially military equipment for the Timor-Leste Defense Force,” explained Ambassador Lizualdo after completing the farewell meeting with the Head of State.

The Ambassador stressed that he will work hard not to miss the opportunity and trust that the Head of State has given him, especially in terms of elevating bilateral cooperation, service delivery, and further strengthening assistance to Timorese people in Malaysia.

Currently, the cooperation between Timor-Leste and Malaysia is in areas such as education, and health, including air transportation, and the program that the ambassador plans to implement is to further enhance air connectivity, which is currently in the discussion phase.

In addition to this, the State mission that the Ambassador will carry out is to seek ways through diplomacy to increase human resource capacity for the implementation of local power decentralization and agricultural development, including investment.
