DILI, 12 june 2024 (TATOLI) – The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) alumni association in Timor-Leste (KAATL) organized a significant event aimed at addressing public health issues and supporting the local healthcare infrastructure. The event features a Knowledge Dissemination Seminar on rabies fatalities in Timor-Leste, a blood donation drive, and the provision of medical equipment to the Comoro Community Health Center.
The Knowledge Dissemination Seminar focused on raising awareness about rabies, a critical public health issue in Timor-Leste. Despite ongoing efforts, rabies continues to claim lives, especially in rural areas where access to information and medical care is limited. The seminar will bring together healthcare professionals, community leaders, and youth groups to discuss effective strategies for rabies prevention and control. Topics will include the importance of vaccination, early detection, and community education.
In conjunction with the seminar, a blood donation drive was conducted on-site. This initiative aims to address the chronic shortage of blood supplies in Timor-Leste, which can be a significant barrier to effective medical treatment and emergency care. The KAATL are encouraging community members and seminar participants to donate blood, highlighting the life-saving impact of such contributions.
Additionally, the event also includes the donation of essential medical equipment to the Comoro Community Health Center. This donation is part of KOICA alumni’s ongoing efforts to support local healthcare facilities and improve the quality of care available to the Timorese people. The equipment, which includes diagnostic tools, vaccination supplies, and protective gear, will enhance the center’s capacity to manage and prevent diseases, including rabies.
Vice Minister for Institutional Strengthening in Health, Jose dos Reis Magno, emphasized the importance of this seminar: “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to improving public health in Timor-Leste. By raising awareness about rabies and supporting our healthcare facilities, we are working towards a healthier and safer community.”
The Korea Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Shin Mantaek, expressed his appreciation to the KOICA alumni for their proactive efforts: “The dedication of KAATL in organizing this event is truly commendable. Their work not only honors the spirit of cooperation between Korea and Timor-Leste but also brings tangible benefits to the people here.”
The KAATL invited all interested parties to participate in the seminar and blood donation drive and join hands in supporting the Comoro Community Health Center.
