Timor-Leste and New Zealand strenthen cooperation

DILI, 12 june 2024 (TAOLI) – New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Winston Peters, arrived in Timor-Leste to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

At a press conference, Winston Peters said that New Zealand is committed to supporting Timor-Leste’s development, adding that both nations are small island countries with the same interests and views on global affairs.

He said it was very important to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, as well as with ASEAN member states, in order to strengthen the prosperity of the economy and security in the region.

Bendito Freitas said that the meeting marks an important moment for the Bilateral Relations between Timor-Leste and New Zealand. The meeting will strengthen not only the existing cordial and warm relations between the two countries but also to consolidate the partnership of the two countries to cope and over the challenges facing human being regionally and globally.

Both state’s dignitaries emphasize the importance of making the voice of the small states heard at the multilateral political arena.
