The three bishops whose remains will be transferred from Portugal to Timor-Leste

DÍLI, 29 October 2026 (TATOLI) — The Government of Timor-Leste has approved an additional US$254,990 for the repatriation of the remains of Catholic prelates who served in the country, increasing the maximum allocated budget from US$600,000 to US$854,990.

The increase was approved through a draft government resolution presented by the Minister of State Administration Tomás Cabral on Wednesday.

The resolution amends Government Resolution No. 19/2026, dated 1 April, which established the original funding allocation.

The additional funding will cover extra expenses approved by the interministerial commission responsible for organising the ceremonies during the implementation process.

The expenses include the government’s official representation at ceremonies held at Évora Cathedral in Portugal, construction work on the monument in Mehara, and the organisation of ceremonies in Bali, Indonesia.

The budget adjustment is intended to ensure that the additional costs associated with these activities are covered.
