DILI, 02 july 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta has embarked on an official state visit to the Republic of Mozambique and the Republic of Angola from july 3 to july 10, 2024.
These visits aim to strengthen diplomatic ties, foster cooperation, and enhance bilateral relations with fellow Lusophone nations.
During the visit to Mozambique from july 3 to july 7, Horta will have a one-on-one meeting with the President of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi. The President will engage in bilateral meetings followed by the signing of agreements, and a joint press conference with President Nyusi.
The President’s itinerary in Mozambique will also include laying of wreath at Heroes’ Square, receiving the Key to the City of Maputo, meeting with the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, Esperança Bias, attending a State Banquet at the Palácio da Ponta Vermelha, delivering a lecture at Eduardo Mondlane University, on “Timor-Leste, the Region and the World,” and visiting the CPLP Strategic Analysis Center.
The Head of State will then travel to Luanda, Angola from july 8 to july 10, 2024. The President’s schedule in Angola includes participating in a state ceremony, holding bilateral and one-on-one meetings with the President of Angola, João Lourenço, and followed by a press conference.
Horta will also meet with the Vice President of Angola, Esperança da Costa, and the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.
He will deliver a lecture at the Venâncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy, visit the Police Academy, and attend a ceremony at the new RDTL Embassy facilities in Angola.
These state visits underscore Timor-Leste’s commitment to strengthening its international relations and fostering cooperation within the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, CPLP.
The President looks forward to productive discussions on shared interests, including economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and regional security. Timor-Leste’s relations with Angola and Mozambique are rooted in shared history as former Portuguese colonies and membership in the CPLP. These visits represent a significant step in reinforcing bonds and exploring new avenues for collaboration.
