DILI, 23 july 2024 (TATOLI) – The Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmão, and the Rector of the National University of Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL), João Martins, launched the new Master’s in Public Policy.
Speaking at the event, Xanana Gusmão highlighted the importance of establishing this new course to train qualified human resources and emphasized that the education sector plays a fundamental role in building values, sharing knowledge, and encouraging students to think critically.
Gusmão called on all higher education institutions to organize academic debates at least twice a year so that teachers and students can discuss and exchange ideas on social and political issues.
The Director of the Department of Public Policy, Martina Gomes, said that the course would make it possible to increase the number of qualified professionals and reduce the hiring of international advisors and consultants.
The course will be taught by Timorese, Portuguese, Brazilian and Indonesian lecturers.
The event was attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Culture, José Honório, the Executive Director of the Human Capital Development Fund, Júlio Aparício, representatives of the Civil Service Commission, the Timorese National Police (PNTL), the East Timorese National Defence Force (F-FDTL) and teachers and students.
