DILI, 13 august 2024 (TATOLI) – The St. John of God International Health team from Australia met with Head of State Jose Ramos Horta to continue expressing their commitment to supporting the development of the health sector, especially at the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV), including Maubisse Referral Hospital in the areas of health care and health management.
St. John of God has been present in Timor-Leste for 20 years, working in the Health area focusing on patient treatment and health systems through training to improve the quality of health management services for patient care. Among the priority programs known in St. John of God’s mission are nursing development, leadership, and more.
According to the President of St. John of God’s Board of Directors, Kerry Sanderson, the challenges faced during their mission in Timor-Leste include proper care of equipment by Hospital managers including doctors, maintenance of health equipment, and capacity building training which is considered to come with some challenges, such as these trainings sometimes not being relevant to the managers in the Hospital.
President Horta, in this meeting, continued to encourage St. John of God’s mission in Timor-Leste, especially in helping to improve the quality of patient care services. Most importantly, the Head of State asked how to properly manage medical health equipment, said Kerry Sanderson after the meeting with the Head of State.
