DILI, 26 august 2024 (TATOLI) The National Centre of Chega! (CNC) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Jakarta, organized a two-day workshop from 26 to 27 august to discuss the digitization of collections.
“The CNC has more than 15,000 historical documents, but only 10,000 have been digitalized due to the limited human resources and sophisticated modern equipment,” CNC Chief Executive Officer Hugo Fernandes Hugo Fernandes told reporters in Balide, Dili.
The Director General of the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia, Imam Gunarto, emphasized the importance of supporting the CNC in digitalizing historical documents.
He also emphasized that “it should be noted some of the documents will have to be restored, as Timor-Leste has a tropical climate and therefore documents, especially audiovisual documents, are vulnerable to heat”.
Representatives from the Max Stahl Audiovisual Centre, the National Archives of Timor-Leste and Indonesia, and the Timor-Leste Resistance Archives and Museum attended the event.
