DILI, 29 august 2024 (TATOLI) – The Dili Municipal Stadium hosts a book fair and an exhibition about the United Nations Mission in Timor-Leste (UNAMET) that are open to the public. The initiatives were organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) as part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Popular Consultation.
Present at the opening ceremony were the Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmão, the former head of UNAMET, Ian Martin, and the former spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Tamrat Samuel.
Speaking at the event, Xanana Gusmão paid tribute to the former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, for playing an important role in the self-determination of the destiny of the Timorese people.
“Thousands of Timorese suffered and lost their lives, and, therefore, we are grateful for the UN’s efforts in sending UNAMET, a mission led by Ian Martin, to carry out the popular consultation,” Prime Minister Gusmão said at the opening fair in Dili Municipality said on wednesday (28/08).
Meanwhile, based on the schedule, the fair took place on 28 August to 30 August 2024.
