DILI, 12 september 2024 (TATOLI) Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão received a visit from Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel to discuss the progress of cooperation between the two countries in the education and justice sectors.
“We both talked about cooperation in various sectors, especially the justice sector and the education sector,’’ Gusmão said after the meeting at the government office on thursday.
In the education sector, human resource training was explored, such as the training of Portuguese language teachers and the expansion of cafe schools, because Timor-Leste is a member of the Portuguese-speaking countries (CPLP).
According to him, the meeting was a follow-up meeting that had previously received the arrival of the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, and the Portuguese Minister of Justice and the Portuguese Minister of Education, who were scheduled to come to Timor-Leste.
Paulo Rangel, the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, pointed out that the meeting was essential since it would discuss cooperation in both the fields of justice and education throughout 2024 to 2028.
“Portugal wants to continue to provide training support to Timor-Leste citizens in the sectors of education and justice because Timor-Leste has democratic values in this region (Asia),’ said the Portuguese Foreign Minister.
Rangel also congratulated Timor-Leste on the 25th anniversary of the referendum, which received official visits from World Leaders UN Secretary General António Guterres as well as the arrival of Pope Francis.
