Timor-Leste prepares to host WHO Southeast Asia Regional Committee Session

DÍLI, 05 August 2026 (TATOLI) — Health Minister Elia A. A. dos Reis Amaral has briefed the Council of Ministers on preparations for the 79th Session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Southeast Asia (WHO/SEARO), which will be held in Dili from September 7 to 10, 2026.
The session is the WHO’s principal governing body for the Southeast Asia Region, bringing together member states to set strategic priorities, review progress in public health and approve regional cooperation initiatives.
Amaral outlined ongoing preparations for the event, including inter-institutional coordination and logistical, protocol, security, and technical support for hosting the delegations.
Hosting this meeting in Timor-Leste represents an opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation in health, promote the country’s international profile, and reaffirm the national commitment to strengthening health systems.
