MAUBISSE, 16 october 2024 (TATOLI) – As part of the opening day events of the Rabilau Festival 2024, President J. Ramos-Horta presided over the inauguration of a Traditional Secret House, marking a significant moment in the preservation and celebration of Timor-Leste’s cultural heritage.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the afternoon, before the official opening of the Rabilau Festival. The Traditional Secret House, known locally as “Uma Lulik,” holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for the communities of Timor-Leste and represents the rich ancestral traditions of Timor-Leste.
During the ceremony, local elders and cultural leaders performed sacred rituals, blessing the newly constructed Uma Lulik. President Ramos-Horta, accompanied by government officials including Acting Prime-Minister, Mariano Assanami Sabino and the Secretary of State for Art and Culture, participated in these traditional rites, emphasizing the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting the nation’s cultural identity.
He commended the local community’s efforts in preserving their traditions and expressed hope that the Uma Lulik would serve as an educational site for future generations and a point of interest for tourists seeking to understand Timor-Leste’s rich cultural tapestry.
