President Horta officially closes Rabilau Festival, calls for Annual Celebration

MAUBISSE, 18 october 2024 (TATOLI) – The Festival Rabilau, a celebration of Timorese culture and tourism, came to a grand conclusion today as President Jose Ramos Horta officially closed the event with remarks highlighting its significance and success. The closing ceremony, held in the picturesque setting of Rabilau, also featured the announcement of various competition winners.

President Ramos Horta reflected on his first visit to Rabilau last year, expressing how the area’s beauty had inspired the President to organize this festival. “When I first visited this place last year, I was amazed by Rabilau’s beauty,” Horta said. “Since then, I knew in my mind that the Presidency should organize this festival, which is why we are here now.”

The President emphasized the importance of promoting Timorese culture and tourism sites, urging the government to make the Festival Rabilau an annual event. “I hope that the government can organize this kind of festival every year, and make it even bigger than this one,” he stated.

Ramos-Horta also took the opportunity to highlight other significant events that Timor-Leste hosted this year, including visits from the Sultan of Brunei, the President of India, the UN Secretary-General, and Pope Francisco. He expressed gratitude for the IX Government’s hard work in organizing these important events in a short timeframe.

In his closing remarks, President Ramos-Horta congratulated the organizing committee and all partners for their support in making the Festival Rabilau a success. The event has set a new benchmark for cultural celebrations in Timor-Leste, showcasing the nation’s rich heritage and natural beauty to both local and international audiences.

As the festival drew to a close, attendees left with a renewed appreciation for Timorese culture and the promise of more such events in the future, solidifying Rabilau’s place as a key destination on Timor-Leste’s cultural and tourism map.
