DILI, 21 october 2024 (TATOLI) – The president of the Republic, Jose Ramos Ramos underscored the critical importance of water conservation and climate change mitigation at the opening of the “National Permayouth Camp 2024” in Railaco, Ermera municipality. The four-day event, organized by PERMATIL (Permaculture Timor-Leste), brings together over 700 young people from across the country under the theme “Planting Water Brings Communities to Life.”

In his address, President Ramos-Ramos, emphasized the direct link between water and life, urging participants to take immediate action against climate change. He called for practical solutions at the grassroots level, criticizing international conferences that fail to produce tangible results for communities.

The President praised executive director, Ego Lemos, for mobilizing national and international support for the initiative. He encouraged the young participants to apply their learning from the camp in their home communities, focusing on water recovery techniques and environmental preservation.

This year’s camp, held in Kaitarahei Village, aims to provide youth with training in water management and conservation practices. President Ramos-Ramos stressed the importance of local leadership, including churches, schools, and municipal authorities, in addressing climate change challenges without solely relying on government interventions.
