DILI, 25 november 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta met with National Parliament President Fernanda Lay to discuss the State General Budget for 2025.
The meeting follows recent budget consultations between President Horta and Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão.
The high-level meeting focused on reviewing the updated budget proposal, which requires parliamentary approval before implementation. This consultation is part of the constitutional process for budget approval in Timor-Leste, ensuring coordination between the executive and legislative branches.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of timely budget approval to ensure continued government operations and development programs for the coming year.
Last week, the National Parliament approved the 2025 General State Budget (GSB), with a total of US$2.617 billion, in a final overall vote. The budget aims to promote investment in strategic infrastructure, strengthen the economy, and improve citizens’ well-being. The law proposal was approved with 42 votes in favour, 23 against, and no abstentions.
