UN Women and SEFOPE sign MoU to promote women’s leadership

DILI, 26 november 2024 (TATOLI) – UN Women Timor-Leste and the Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SEFOPE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to solidify their commitment to promoting women’s leadership and participation in vocational training, employment, and entrepreneurship.

“Today, we celebrate a major step forward for gender equality and economic empowerment in Timor-Leste! UN Women and SEFOPE have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding, solidifying our commitment to promoting women’s leadership and participation in vocational training, employment, and entrepreneurship,” Amy Nishtha Satyam, Head of Office for UN Women Timor-Leste said a statement.

Satyam said that the partnership envisions “a more inclusive and resilient economy where women’s contributions are recognized, valued, and supported.”

“Together, we will empower women to thrive in key sectors like agriculture, tourism, and the green economy by focusing on the care economy, vocational training, and international labor mobility programs,” she said.

UN Women and SEFOPE believe that with the collaboration, the skilled young women workers and gender equality go hand in hand, creating stronger communities and driving sustaable development across the action.

“Together, we’re building a future where women lead innovate and inspire,” added Satyam.
