The contract was signed by the Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, KIMURA Tetsuya, and the Secretary of State for Civil Protection, Domingos Mariano Reis at the Embassy of Japan, in Dili, today.
The assistance is provided through Japan’s development assistance scheme “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).”

“Civil Protection Authority will be provided with the fine secondhand fire engines in Lautem and Dili Municipalities, with a funding amount of US$333,987, from the Government of Japan,” said Ambassador Kimura.
Through its development assistance scheme, Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), the Government of Japan has provided a total of nine fire engines in the past.
“This time, it plans to provide two fire trucks with pump, tank truck, ladder truck and tank truck for drinking water,” he said.
Ambassador Kimura stated that “the Embassy of Japan has been working closely with APC, that is directly responsible for protecting security and their livelihood of the people in Timor-Leste.
“I hope that fire-related incidents or disaster will not occur, but if it happens, please efficiently use the fire engines provided by the project signed today to save people and their property. I would like to say that we will continue to cooperate with the APC and the people of Timor-Leste in emergency response and disaster risk reduction by sharing our experience and knowledge,” Kimura said.
