DILI, 17 February 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), Taur Matan Ruak, continues to lead the party, with a majority of congressmen electing him on Sunday as party leader for the next five years.

Meanwhile, Constantino Brandão was elected Chairman of the Fiscal Committee, with Silvestre Esteme, Franculino da Costa, Rafael Mendes, Regina Freitas, Augusta Lopes, Meta Mendonça, Verónica Moniz, and Bernardo da Costa as vice-chairmen.

As for the Judicial Committee, Tiago Amaral Sarmento was elected as chairman, and Gabriel Aparício, João Soares, Roberto Dasi, Tomás Correia, Miquela de Jesus, Nicolau Marques, Joana Magno and Raquela Godinho as vice-chairmen.

In a national congress held from February 15 to 16, under the theme ‘Together, We Will Save This Country,” the 1,206 delegates not only reelected the party leaders but also consolidated the party’s structure at the national and municipal levels, as well as distributed militant cards to the party followers.

Taur Matan Ruak thanked the Organizing Committee for successfully organizing the conference and the outgoing party cadres and leaders who had contributed to the PLP securing seats in the National Parliament.

In 2023 parliamentary elections, PLP received only 5.9% of the vote, taking four seats at the parliament.
