TL and HRDK discuss expanding employment opportunities for Timorese workers in South Korea

DILI, 11 March 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to South Korea, António de Sá Benevides, along with Calisto Pacheco, Labor Attaché, and Labor Attaché Assistant, José S.C. Sores, visited the Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRDK) Headquarters in Ulsan, Gyeongsang-do.

During the visit, Ambassador Benevides met with President of HRDK, Lee Woo-young, and Vice President, Lim Seoung-mook, Director-General, Shin Seoung-gil, and Kwon Gi-sung, Director of the Foreign Workforce Planning Department.

He introduced himself as the new Ambassador to Korea and expressed his deep gratitude for HRDK’s continued support of Timorese workers.

“The discussion focused on expanding employment opportunities for Timorese workers, particularly in the construction and hospitality sectors, recognizing their strong work ethic and adaptability,” said in a statement released today. 

Ambassador Benevides emphasized the importance of enhancing technical skills and vocational training, ensuring that Timorese workers remain competitive in Korea’s evolving labor market.

In response, HRDK President Lee Woo-young reaffirmed his commitment to providing special attention to Timorese workers, acknowledging their dedication and contributions.

This meeting marked another important step in strengthening bilateral cooperation in workforce development, paving the way for greater opportunities and professional growth for Timorese workers in Korea.
