DILI, 03 April 2025 (TATOLI) – UNICEF Representative, Patrizia DiGiovanni, thanked the Wiggles for their dedication to support UNICEF’s mission, and for using their global influence in children’s entertainment, to raise awareness about the critical needs of children.

The four members of the Wiggles Anthony Field, Lachlan Gillespie, Tsehay Hawkins, and Caterina Mete, in their capacity as UNICEF Australia’s Goodwill Ambassadors, visited Timor-Leste from March 25 to 28 to learn about the situation of children and women in the country. In turn, they aimed to help Australian audiences better understand the issues affecting children in Timor-Leste.

During their three days in the country, they engaged with school children, communities, teachers, and young people, from Dili, Liquica, and Ermera, who gave them insights into UNICEF’s support to early childhood development, young people’s development, and water and sanitation.

The Wiggles’ songs captivated the young Timorese, who joyfully joined in the singing, rhythmic dances, and clapping, demonstrating their excitement at meeting this famous group.  In turn, the children shared some of the memorable educational songs which they sing as part of the play-based learning exercises at schools and pre-schools.

“By spending time with the children of Timor-Leste, the Wiggles now have a firsthand experience of the progress of children’s rights in the country, and they can also speak openly about the need for more resources to support children in Timor-Leste,” said DiGiovanni.

The Wiggles are a renowned Australian children’s music group formed in Sydney in 1991, known for their catchy songs, vibrant costumes, and engaging performances, with current members including Anthony Field, Lachlan Gillespie, Simon Pryce, Tsehay Hawkins, Evie Ferris, John Pearce, Caterina Mete, and Lucia Field.
