DILI, 07 April 2025 (TATOLI) – A foreign national has been charged with smuggling and trafficking 2.94 kg of cocaine from France to Timor-Leste by air on Wednesday (02/04).
During yesterday’s hearing, the Public Prosecutor, represented by Prosecutor Rogério Viegas, charged the defendant with his alleged involvement in the trafficking of 2.94kg of cocaine into the country.
The Dili District Court applied a preventive detention order to the defendant following the seizure of the stimulant drug.
The foreign national was charged with the crime of illicit trafficking under Law No. 2/2017, of 25th of December 2017 on combating drug trafficking and the illicit consumption.
Meanwhile, the defendant’s lawyer, Januário Martins, argued that imposing travel restriction orders and periodic reporting would be a more appropriate sentence for his client.
Martins pledged that he would file an appeal: “According to the law, we have 30 days to appeal the court’s decision if we believe the applied sentence is not the appropriate.”
