Timor-Leste’s Blue Economy on full display at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka Prefecture

DILI, 15 April 2025 (TATOLI) – Vice-Prime Minister (VPM) and Minister Coordinator for Economic Affairs and Minister of Tourism and Environment, Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, representing Timor-Leste as the Head of Timor-Leste’s Delegation to the World Expo 2025, in Osaka, Japan, welcomed on Sunday (13/04), the Secretary-General (SG) of ASEAN, Kao Kim Hourn to the Timor-Leste Pavilion.

VPM Kalbualdi took ASEAN’s SG Kao on a tour of Timor-Leste’s Pavilion, where the national efforts on the Blue Economy (BE) are showcased and attracting the interest of international visitors to the unique potential and natural beauty of Timor-Leste’s marine resources.

Kao was gifted the Blue Economy Coffee Table Book “My Sea, My Timor” produced by the Land and Maritime Boundary Office (LMBO) and launched by Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão in September 2024 during his participation at the United National General Assembly. The book, part of the BE campaign “My Sea, My Timor” aims to promote the sustainable development of Timor-Leste’s marine resources to diversify the nation’s economy.

Timor-Leste’s pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, was inaugurated by Vice-Prime Minister Kalbuadi. The Pavilion showcases Timorese Arts and Culture and its traditions, Agriculture, and Natural Resources products, and it includes a large exhibition of BE materials that includes a coffee table book, a children’s storybook, and its accompanying colouring book titled “My Sea, My Timor” and a wide range of souvenirs, wearables, and gifts to be given away to visitors.

The World Expo 2025 in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, runs from 13 April until 13 October 2025, with a total of 200 pavilions representing the world’s nations for visitors to explore.

Timor-Leste’s official delegation also included the President of Commission B of Timor-Leste’s National Parliament which deals with matters of Foreign Affairs, Defence, and National Security, Domingos Augusto “Deker”, the President of Commission C which deals with matters of Public Finance, Cedelizia Faria dos Santos, and a team of dedicated Timorese staff who will remain at Timor-Leste’s pavilion until October 2025.
