DILI, 13 April 2026 (TATOLI) — José Ramos-Horta met with Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Chun Sovannarith, on Monday at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, where both sides discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation and advance key agreements between Timor-Leste and Cambodia.
During the meeting, Ambassador Sovannarith conveyed greetings from Cambodia’s acting head of state and president of the Senate, highlighting what he described as strong personal and official ties between the leadership of the two Southeast Asian nations.
Talks centered on accelerating cooperation and implementing a range of existing and planned agreements aimed at bringing the two countries closer.
A key focus of the discussions was progress toward a visa exemption agreement for holders of ordinary passports, which both sides said would make travel easier and strengthen people-to-people links.
The two sides also explored ways to boost tourism and improve regional connectivity as part of broader efforts to support economic growth.
President Ramos-Horta reaffirmed his commitment to a strong partnership by encouraging the Cambodian Embassy to maintain an open and direct channel of communication with the Presidency. This proactive approach is intended to streamline future diplomatic engagements and ensure the effective execution of joint initiatives, marking a significant step forward in the enduring friendship between Timor-Leste and Cambodia.
