DILI, 22 April 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, on Monday afternoon, met with King Simeon II of Bulgaria.
The encounter took place at 3:30 PM while the Head of State was visiting the iconic Boyana Church and the National History Museum of Bulgaria.
“The meeting carried profound symbolic importance, bringing together two prominent figures with life journeys marked by commitment to their peoples’ dignity and respect for historical memory. King Simeon II made a special effort to personally travel to the site, where the two dignitaries shared a brief but warm exchange,” read a statement.
The setting added significance to the encounter, as the National History Museum is housed in the former Boyana Residence Palace—once the official residence of Bulgarian communist leaders including Todor Zhivkov.
The meeting preceded a visit to the Boyana Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its 1259 frescoes that are considered precursors to the European Renaissance and represent a jewel of Bulgaria’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
