DILI, 24 APRIL 2025 (TATOLI) – Batik Air Malaysia proudly announces the launch of the direct service between Dili and Kuala Lumpur, marking a significant milestone in regional air connectivity. This historic move establishes the airline as the first Malaysian carrier to operate direct flights between the two capitals, paving the way for new travel and trade opportunities between Timor-Leste and Malaysia.
Commencing on 6th June 2025, the new route will operate twice weekly, offering travelers a seamless and convenient connection to Kuala Lumpur, one of Asia’s most dynamic and cosmopolitan cities. With its unique blend of modern skyscrapers, colonial heritage, natural wonders, and vibrant cultural diversity, Malaysia is set to captivate visitors from Timor-Leste.
Batik Air Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, stated that this new route reflects the airline’s commitment to strengthening regional ties and connecting emerging cities across Asia
“We anticipate that this route will enhance accessibility to Timor-Leste, and we are proud to support closer cooperation, foster bilateral tourism, and strengthen people-to-people exchanges between the two countries,” he said. “The new service will also bolster Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA T1) as a key strategic transit hub in the region.”
Muthy added that this new route is expected to stimulate inbound travel to Malaysia, offering Timorese travelers a chance to experience the country’s warm hospitality and diverse landscapes. Malaysia, with its blend of tradition and modernity, invites visitors to explore peaceful islands, lush rainforests, and vibrant local cultures. It’s a place where shared values of family, respect, and community create meaningful connections for all who visit.
“Malaysia is a treasure trove of experiences, steeped in heritage, rich in cultural diversity, and renowned for its warm hospitality,” he said, adding that the airline is delighted to make these experiences more accessible to Timorese travelers through KLIA T1, which offers seamless connections to over 60 destinations across 20 countries.
The route also opens doors for Malaysians to discover the charm and beauty of Dili. Perched along the shimmering Timor Sea, the capital city enchants with its blend of Portuguese colonial heritage, pristine beaches, and dramatic mountain backdrops, all wrapped in a vibrant culture and warm community spirit that is placing it firmly on the map as one of Southeast Asia’s most intriguing destinations.
This landmark route not only promotes tourism and leisure travel, but also opens the door to business ventures, educational exchanges, and deeper cultural ties between the two nations.
Operated by Batik Air’s Boeing 737, the service offers a direct flight of approximately four hours and 15 minutes, eliminating the need for lengthy stopovers and ensuring a quicker, more comfortable journey. Passengers can choose from a range of branded fares, tailored to suit different travel preferences – whether they prioritise optional baggage allowance, in-flight dining, or flexible booking options.
Batik Air’s plan to launch service to Timor-Leste this year was announced last year by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during a joint press conference held during Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão’s official visit to Malaysia
