Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen arrives in Dili

DILI, 07 May 2025 (TATOLI) – Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, arrived today in Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, for a three-day visit to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Upon his arrival at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport at around 5 p.m. local time, Hun Sen was received by the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.

During his three-day visit to the country from May 5 to 7, he will hold bilateral meetings with President Horta and Prime Minister Gusmão, and will also meet with the Speaker of the National Parliament, Maria Fernanda Lay.

Techo Hun Sen is scheduled to address a special session of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste and deliver a lecture titled “Hun Sen’s Lessons: From Genocide and Poverty toward Freedom and Prosperity” at the Presidential Palace. The event will be attended by members of parliament, government officials, diplomats, students, and representatives of civil society.

In recognition of his significant contributions in supporting Timor-Leste over the past two decades, particularly its journey toward ASEAN membership, Hun Sen will be awarded the Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the country’s highest honor.

Hun Sen is accompanied by Ouch Borith, First Vice President of the Senate, members of the Senate and National Assembly, and other senior legislative leaders, as well as officials from various ministries and institutions.

This is Hun Sen’s second visit to the country; his first visit was in 2016, when he was serving as the Prime Minister of Cambodia.
