DILI, 19 June 2025 (TATOLI) – A delegation from the Office of the President visited the Suai Regional Prison Facility today as part of a social support initiative promoted by the President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta.
During the visit, the delegation distributed essential goods to 130 inmates, including clothing, blankets, and sports uniforms received directly from Rui Gonçalves, Director of the Suai Prison Facility.
This action concludes the Office of the President’s initiative to extend support, especially for providing humanitarian aid to inmates throughout Timor. The distributed goods came from a generous donation by Hongkong AB Charity Foundation.
Before the Suai stage, the initiative had already benefited: 450 inmates at the Becora Prison Facility in Dili, and 110 inmates at the Gleno Prison Facility in Ermera. In total, 690 inmates were supported across the three prison facilities covered by this phase of the campaign.
The delivered goods, including sports equipment and everyday clothing, are intended to support both recreational activities and the basic needs of the inmates.
The logistics team from the Office of the President ensured coordination with the prison facility administrations, guaranteeing an organized and equitable distribution of the items. This initiative reflects the Head of State’s commitment to human dignity and the principle of inclusion, extending solidarity also to the incarcerated population in Timor-Leste.
